A dental x-ray provides us with a better examination of your teeth, jaw, and the overall condition of your mouth. This type of x-ray helps dentists get the full picture of your mouth and is incredibly important for detecting early signs of tooth decay or gum disease. Most patients will require dental radiography every couple of years, just to ensure that everything is on track and identify any potential issues before they become bigger, and more painful, concerns. These concerns include any dental disease such as cavities, bone loss and tooth development, as well as cysts and tumours that wouldn’t be picked up through an ordinary oral exam.

One Convenient Location for Dental Radiography

Our practice has two forms of dental radiography to ensure our premium patient care and treatment is upheld. Our qualified dentists are able to take a small close up x-ray, known as inter-oral, or an OPG, which provides a panoramic view of the upper and lower jaw. Rest assured patient comfort is always our number one priority and you will not feel any pain or discomfort during either procedure.

The technology we use at Racecourse Road Dental and Orthodontics is state of the art, uses less radiation than a typical x-ray, and images are available immediately. This means we can tend to your oral health requirements on the spot, avoiding multiple appointments to work out your care, and start the necessary treatments.

Similarly, by having OPG x-ray technology at our premier practice allows us to see the number, position and growth of all the teeth, including those that have not yet broken through the surface immediately. An OPG scan may also reveal problems with the jawbone and the joint which connects the jawbone to the skull. If you are requiring an assessment of your wisdom teeth, this type of scan is incredibly useful.
