Cosmetic gum reshaping or contouring is a simple and effective treatment. Whilst it takes many qualities combined to make a great smile, one of the most important is the shape and size of your teeth, particularly in proportion to your mouth and gums. And, whilst a dominating gumline does not present any medical or oral health concerns, an obvious inconsistency between the teeth and gum can cause embarrassment.

What is Gum Reshaping and Contouring?
Cosmetic gum reshaping or contouring we can recommend if your smile makes your teeth appear abnormally short because of excessive gum tissue. In these situations, the gum tissue may appear bulky or as though the gums come down over your teeth too far. In most cases, a gummy smile is simply the result of this excessive tissue covering teeth that are a normal length and shape, and can be treated in our practice with beautiful results that last forever.
Our qualified dentist will use a laser to simply remove a small amount of the gum tissue to reveal more of the tooth structure and give you a more aesthetically pleasing smile. The laser is gentle and causes little to no bleeding or discomfort.

Because the procedure uses a contactless laser to reduce the gum tissue, it automatically seals any blood vessels to prevent excessive bleeding so with no sutures, incisions or scalpels used in the procedure, there is only a brief period of downtime necessary after gum reshaping and most patients are able to resume their normal routine instantly. Your appointment will typically only consist of localised anaesthesia so you will be able to drive yourself to and from your appointment and, as this wears off, swelling, tenderness, soreness or sensitivity in the gums is common. As your gums heal over the next week or so, these minor symptoms will gradually subside.
